Long before Casa Capie existed, there was a friendship.

Carol Pieters and Carlos Sosa met during their school years in Guatemala, connected by a shared curiosity for creativity, culture, and design. As teenagers, they dreamed of one day creating something together. They even gave it a name: SOPI, a combination of their last names, Sosa and Pieters.

At the time, it was little more than an idea. A conversation between friends imagining what the future could hold.

Life, however, took them in different directions.

Carol moved to Savannah, Georgia to study Industrial Design at SCAD, while Carlos pursued Product Design in Spain. Though separated by an ocean, they remained closely connected. Through years of messages, calls, sketches, and shared projects, they continued exchanging ideas, offering feedback, and following each other's creative journeys from afar.

What began as a friendship slowly became an ongoing creative dialogue.

While studying abroad, Carol visited Carlos in Spain, experiencing firsthand the places, people, and design culture that were shaping his perspective. Years later, after graduation, she visited him again in Berlin, where Carlos had established himself as a designer. Despite living on different continents, they continued sharing ideas, discussing projects, and inspiring one another through every stage of their careers.

During that visit, they traveled together to Kassel to experience Documenta, one of the world's most influential contemporary art exhibitions. Walking through installations, exhibitions, and conversations that extended far beyond museum walls, they encountered a vision of art that felt deeply intertwined with everyday life.

From Kassel, they continued to Formentera.

There, surrounded by the island's slower rhythm, natural beauty, and effortless elegance, they found themselves drawn to a way of living where creativity was not separate from daily life. Beauty was present in the smallest details. A meal shared outdoors. A carefully prepared table. A walk through a quiet village. The feeling of time slowing down enough to notice what truly matters.

Those experiences stayed with them.

As their careers evolved independently, Carol working across products, interiors, retail, and creative direction in New York, and Carlos building a multidisciplinary practice spanning product design, branding, social design, and digital experiences throughout Europe, they found themselves returning to the same conversations.

Not just about design, but about how to live.

How spaces shape emotions. How objects hold memories. How rituals create meaning. How beauty can transform the everyday. How the simplest moments can become experiences worth remembering.

Over time, they realized that what connected all of their work was a shared belief in the art of living.

A belief that creativity is not reserved for galleries, brands, or products. It exists in how we gather, how we travel, how we host, how we celebrate, and how we move through the world each day. The art of living is about bringing intention, beauty, and meaning into everyday experiences.

That belief became the foundation of Casa Capie.

Today, Casa Capie exists at the intersection of their complementary perspectives. Carol brings imagination, storytelling, and an instinct for creating worlds that evoke emotion and wonder. Carlos brings strategy, systems thinking, and a deep sensitivity for shaping experiences that feel intentional and human.

Together, they design brands, spaces, products, and experiences rooted in the idea that design is not separate from life. It is part of how we experience it.

Casa Capie is the evolution of a friendship that has spanned continents, careers, and decades. A studio born from curiosity, trust, and a shared conviction that beauty, meaning, and creativity belong in everyday life.
